AGDQ Raises Over $1.5 Million for Charity
A lot of people love gamers who do YouTube let’s plays and Twitch live streaming for a living. Eventually, I’d like to add that stuff to the offerings I do online (under the etg banner or a different pseudonym). For now, though, I’m leaving it to the experts.
The great things about those experts is that they often put their talents to good use. A group of speedrunners joined forces to raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation with a week-long speedrunning marathon streamed on Twitch.
According the AGDQ’s website, the event raised over $1.55 million in money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation between donations to AGDQ and merchandise sales. In addition to direct donations, they had funds raised through t-shirt sales as well as a AGDQ Humble Bundle, which reportedly brought in about $200,000 by itself. In total, event organizers counted 39,000 donations from just over 29,000 donors.
The whole fundraiser took place from January 4th to the 11th and featured a whole host of speedrunners complete over 150 games to raise money for charity. If you missed it, AGDQ’s YouTube channel is updating with this year’s archives.
And while you’ll never see it mentioned in a press release or included on a tax receipt, the best moment of AGDQ was when Jackafur got engaged to Kittyrawr live on stream. Who doesn’t love love?
