Zack Snyder Shows Off Ben Affleck’s New Batsuit and Batmobile for Batman vs. Superman
Man of Steel 2 (AKA Batman vs. Superman) director Zack Snyder didn’t go through the usual PR channels for a big reveal of the upcoming DC Comics epic. Snyder took to his Twitter account to show off the first official image of Ben Affleck as Batman along with his new Batmobile.
I suppose I should show you the actual picture at this point of the post:
I won’t go out of my way to call this Clooney-esque but there’s a lot of detail to this Batfleck’s batsuit. However, instead of Clooney’s nipples, it looks like there’s some vein details to go along with all the muscles built into the suit.
The most important thing to note from the suit is the new Bat symbol. Well, it’s not actually new but it’s new for the movies. That bat symbol is very reminiscent of the Bat symbol that Frank Miller drew on Batman in his The Dark Knight Returns miniseries.
Miller’s TDKR series was a four-issue arc that saw an older Batman come out of retirement to save Gotham and, at one point during the series, fight Superman. At the unveiling of Man of Steel 2 at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, a passage from Miller’s series was read which furthers the connection between TDKR and the Superman sequel.
As a Superman fan, I hope they don’t try doing a straight adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Having Batman fight Superman in their first movie together seems to me like they’re just making a Batman movie in Supes’ franchise. Granted, the whole thing right now seems like they’re just trying to throw anything and everything DC Comics related that everyone knows at the movie and hoping that it works.
A number of high-profile roles have been cast so far. Ben Affleck has drawn in for Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman. Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luthor. Jeremy Irons replaces Michael Caine as Alfred. And Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher have been cast as Wonder Woman / Diana Prince and Cyborg / Victor Stone, respectively.
Despite how worried I am about how Batman vs. Superman will turn out, at the very least, Batfleck looks sharp in his new suit.
