Irrational Games’ Job Fair Hosts 57 Studios for 75 Employees

irrational-games-logoIt’s never good to hear about games developers closing up shop and people losing their jobs but it’s nice when a company goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone lands on their feet. While most companies are content to just cut jobs and say “S.O.L.,” Irrational Games just held its job fair to help out the 75 employees who are losing a job of the company’s closure and saw 57 studios show up to meet the outgoing developers.

When Ken Levine announced that Irrational Games would be closing with all but 15 employees being let go, he also announced that current employees would get help to move on. They would be given time to prepare their portfolios, receive financial support, if needed, and be part of a recruiting event for departing staffers with other studios.

According to Irrational, 57 studios, both Take-Two and third-party developers, came to Irrational’s studios on February 26th to meet with the 70 employees and five contractors who are being let go. Among the studios attending were Bethesda, BioWare, Crytek, Turtle Rock and Gearbox.

Again, while it’s terrible that people are losing jobs even as the industry is booming, at least the people affected look like they’re going to land on their feet. Hopefully keeping the talented people who made BioShock and BioShock Infinite in the industry means that we’ll get more great games as a result.
