The Xbox One is Also Suffering from Hardware Issues

xbox-one-console-bannerWell, it should surprise anyone that a new piece of electronic hardware is suffering some issues at launch. Like some PlayStation 4 consoles, the Xbox One is suffering from a few hardware maladies.

While some PS4s aren’t taking the discs into the console, the some Xbox One Blu-Ray drives are not reading discs while others are actually eating the discs.

The reports of faults in both consoles are gaining a lot of attention but analysts suggest that this is a result in the proliferation of social media websites. The increased number of gaming outlets probably isn’t helping to keep this story quiet either.

Problems with either console isn’t surprising. I remember the PlayStation 2 having problems with its disc drive with the original generation PS2 consoles. The Xbox 360 had the infamous Red Ring of Death hardware faults that affected anywhere from one-sixth to one-half of early 360 units.

For their part, Microsoft is offering those gamers who have been affected by disc drive malfunctions a free game along with a replacement console. Gamers can choose from four first-party exclusive launch titles, including Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome or Zoo Tycoon. Naturally, they’re offering these as digital downloads. Better safe than sorry.

One important thing to keep in mind right now is that hardware failure was to be expected from gaming consoles just like any other device. The early numbers aren’t indicative of a 360 level of catastrophic hardware problem. There’s no need to panic about next-gen consoles being defective yet.
