Blizzard All-Stars Renamed Heroes of the Storm
Blizzard All-Stars is dead! Long live Blizzard All-Stars!
Okay, it’s not actually dead. The Blizzard All-Stars of the name is dead though. Because you can’t have enough popular games with the acronym HotS, the not-so-secret Blizzard MOBA project has been rechristened Heroes of the Swarm.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s entry into the free-to-play MOBA genre. It combines heroes from Blizzard’s WarCraft, Diablo and StarCraft franchises in one game.
Blizzard’s planned entry into the MOBA genre has been in the works since 2010 but work on Heroes of the Storm in its current form has been underway since around 2011 when it was simply known at Blizzard DOTA. According to Activision Blizzard’s Q4 2012 report, Blizzard All-Stars, as it was then known, was a focus of development for the 2013 calendar year.
Now that it’s been given a new name, we’re expecting to see more of Heroes of the Storm when BlizzCon rolls around in November. I guess I’ll have something else to watch beside the WCS finals.
Here’s Blizzard’s announcement video by Carbot Animation of StarCrafts video fame.
