Dragon Age Gets a Free-to-Play Mobile Spin-off

heroes-of-dragon-age-screenshot-01There’s nothing a franchise’s fans like to hear more than free-to-play mobile game. Just ask Final Fantasy fans, especially those who actually spend money on All The Bravest.

Not one to learn what damage you can do to a franchise with a terrible F2P cash-in, EA is taking Dragon Age to mobile devices. However, rather than put DA:O on iPad like they did with KOTOR, EA is releasing a combat-based F2P Dragon Age game because we can’t learn from Square’s mistakes.

The game is called Heroes of Dragon Age and is not being developed by BioWare but EA’s mobile-focused Capital Games studio.

Heroes of Dragon Age will see you build a party of heroes and monsters from Dragon Age lore to do combat. The characters will be unlocked through booster packs that will presumably be made available for purchase using in-game credits and real-world money.

No release date has been announced yet but it appears to be coming out for both iOS and Android.

Maybe I’m giving up on this one too early because EA hasn’t done too wrongly by Plants vs. Zombies. Sure, they turned Real Racing into a cash grab with RR3 but maybe this one will turn out alright. I won’t hold my breath, though.
