It’s Shatner vs. The Gorn: Round 2 for Star Trek: The Video Game
Captain James T. Kirk is back to help sell the upcoming Star Trek: The Video Game and he’s brought along an old friend. No, I’m not talking about Chris Pine’s Kirk from the rebooted Star Trek helmed by director J.J. Abrams, though that’s the time period in which the new game is set. In the latest Star Trek: The Video Game promo, William Shatner is back and battling his old nemesis, the Gorn. Sadly, no flying drop kick.
In case you’re a bit behind on ST:TVG news, it’s a co-op third-person shooter starring the rebooted Kick and Spock. They will visit the planet of New Vulcan, learn about the Helios Device which some are speculating is a rebooted Genesis Device and encounter classic Star Trek villains the Gorn. The crew of the Enterprise are all back to reprise their roles from the recent movies. And, yes, you can explore and fly the NCC-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C or D).
The game will have drop-in, drop-out co-op and will allow you to play local co-op, online co-op and solo with the AI. The two characters will have different roles and abilities. If you saw 2009’s Star Trek (or Star Trek XI as I prefer to call it), it wouldn’t come as a surprise that Kirk is more your stereotypical shooter while Spock takes a stealth approach and can use the Vulcan nerve pinch and the Vulcan mind meld.
And just for fun, here’s the original battle between Kirk and the Gorn. I know that it’s a rebooted Star Trek universe and all but why couldn’t we have some classic Gorns in this game rather than these slightly more reptilian/raptor-ish Gorn? At the very least, can we get a throwback hand-to-hand fight with a Gorn?
