Former Rockstar Employee Hints that Red Dead Redemption 2 is Coming Soon
Here’s the latest hot bit of news from the rumour mill. While everybody was either hunting for black Friday deals or playing one of the numerous November releases, former Rockstar developer Danny Ross did an AMA on the Opie and Anthony subreddit. Answering a question, Ross seemed to strongly hint that Red Dead Redemption 2 was the next project out of Rockstar Games.
When asked by a user what Rockstar’s next project would be, Ross answered “Really? Dumbass. Really? Two.” The line of thinking from fans is that the initials of Ross’ answer gives the hint that RDR2 will be the next major project out of Rockstar. Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnik was quoted last year as saying that Red Dead was a “permanent franchise” in Rockstar’s lineup so another Red Dead game was not so much an if but when.
The folks over at What Culture have gone a step further with their reporting on this rumour. Gaming editor Scott Tailford says that an anonymous source close to Rockstar informed What Culture that the game will be titled Red Dead 3 rather than RDR2.
What these rumours and reports don’t tell us is what RDR2/RD3 will be about or when we will see it. I would anticipate that Rockstar will look at the recent example of Kotaku’s dealings with Bethesda and Ubisoft and try to keep information as locked down as possible so they can reveal the game on their own terms. I’m also slightly concerned that none of the major gaming news sites seem to have acknowledged the rumours though it’s entirely possible that they could be concerned about being blacklisted from what would certainly be one of the biggest games of the year.
