NVIDIA Enters the GPU Price War with GTX 770 & 780 Price Cut
When AMD announced the prices for their new R9 series of graphics cards, everyone expected it to kick off a price war, especially when the flagship R9 290X was competitive with NVIDIA’s GTX 780 and Titan for only $550. Now, the green brand is answering the bell and is slashing the prices on some of its top offerings.
As of yesterday, you can start getting discounts on newly purchased GTX 770s and 780s. The 770 gets a $70 price trim from $400 to $330 which places it only $30 higher than the price of a new R9 280X.
The GTX 780 gets a more substantial price drop of $150 down to $500. That places is $50 below the current price of a R9 290X. Coincidentally, Anand Tech says that the 10% price difference also mimics the 10% performance gap between NVIDIA’s GTX 780 and the R9 290X.
To sweeten the deal further, NVIDIA has a big holiday bundle planned for people who buy new 770s and 780s (and Titans). They’ll get three free games with their purchase along with a $100 discount on the NVIDIA Shield. They’ll get Batman: Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
And just in case you wanted to spend more than $500 for a new NVIDIA card but less than $1,000 for the Titan, NVIDIA has the new GTX 780 Ti for you to consider. They haven’t released the specs of their new GPU yet but at a $700 price tag, you have to figure that it has to out-duel the R9 290X by a significant margin. We’ll find out more about this soon. It comes out on November 7th.
