E3 2013: The Xbox One Launches in Only 21 Countries in November
Do you live in Portugal, the Czech Republic, South Africa, South Korea, China or India and want to play on your Xbox One this holiday season? Well, you’re completely SOL.
Microsoft has posted a list of 21 countries which is calls Xbox One-supported Xbox Live countries which are the only countries where you can access Xbox Live from your Xbox One to activate games and perform the required online check-in to play games when the console launches in November.
If you were planning to buy an Xbox One and live in one of the following countries, you’re okay. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait and see if Microsoft will launch the console in your region.

- Brazil
- Canada
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Ireland
- Italy
- Mexico
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Russia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States
Of the over 240 countries officially recognized by the United Nations, less than 9% will have the Xbox One available to them at launch. Based on recent population estimates, the Xbox One will only be available to 1.2 billion of the over 7 billion people making up the global population, or about 17%.
As someone pointed out on NeoGAF, one of Xbox One’s premiere launch titles, The Witcher 3, is being developed in Poland. So you can make games for the Xbox One
While you may think that more than four-fifths of the world population is getting screwed over by this policy but it’s only driving them into the arms of the region-free PlayStation 4. At the end of the day, the only people truly getting Xboned is Microsoft.
