EA Has Money For You… Thanks to a Lawsuit Settlement

Are you one of the millions of gamers who regularly buy one of EA Sports’ football games? Thanks to a lawsuit over EA Sports’ exclusive licenses to make games for various sports leagues, you can get some money back. If you bought an EA Sports Madden NFL, NCAA Football or Arena Football game between January 1, 2005, and June 21, 2012, you’re entitled to a not insubstantial claim.

If you bought a Madden NFL, NCAA Football or Arena Football game between January 1, 2005, and June 21, 2012 for PS2, Xbox, PC or GameCube, you’re entitled to a claim of $20.37 per game. If you bought any games from those franchises in that time span for PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii, you’re entitled to $5.85 per game. You can claim up to eight games for compensation.

This settlement claim is a result of a class action lawsuit over EA’s exclusive license to produce NFL, NCAA and AFL games. The lawsuit alleged such fun things as price-fixing and an illegal monopoly. EA’s settlement didn’t come with an admission of guilt.

Notices to gamers were said to have gone out yesterday to EA accounts that are tied to your games. Check your inboxes and spam boxes to see if you’re eligible to file a claim. The deadline to file claims is May 15, 2013.
