The Toledo Mud Hens Are Celebrating Star Wars Day in Style
The Toledo Mud Hens, the triple-A baseball affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are celebrating Star Wars Day on May the 4th. While most baseball teams are likely to encourage fans to show up in costume or have a Star Wars character on hand to throw out the first pitch, the Mud Hens are taking things one step further.
This whole weekend will be Star Wars Weekend at Fifth Third Field with Saturday being “May the Fourth Be with You” day and Sunday being “Revenge of the Fifth.” Even better, they’re wearing snazzy Chewbacca-themed jerseys.
In addition to the Chewbacca jerseys, the Mud Hens are planning plenty of other activities (good and bad) for the weekend. The first 3,000 fans at the game will get kazoos for a post-game kazoo-along which won’t even slightly get annoying during the game.
On the good side, Star Wars characters will make appearances. There will be facepainting and costume booths, Star Wars themed food and beverages (including Yoda Soda and Darth Chocolate Brownie Sundaes), Star Wars music and sound effects played during the game and post-game fireworks on Saturday night.
By the way, the Mud Hens will be auctioning off the jerseys after the games. I wish they’d sell these in the team store too. I’d love a Mud Hens Chewbacca jersey. I would start an et geekera YouTube channel just so I can make videos while wearing this jersey.
