Epic Space Sim “Rogue System” Needs Your Money on Kickstarter

I very seldom mention the projects I find interesting on Kickstarter. However, I’m willing to make an exception to post this one. Rogue System is a new space sim being developed by Digits Crossed Interactive. This isn’t any normal space sim, though. Checking out the videos that DCI and boss Michael Juliano have posted show that this is the sim-iest and most intense space sim that I’ve ever seen… And okay with that.

Normally, I’d be turned off by something that looks like it have overly complicated gameplay mechanics. However, considering some of the indie games that I’ve seen pop up on Steam that claim to be space sims, it’s great to see a game that takes the space sim genre seriously. Hell, I’d reckon that flight simulators have to be at least this intense. I don’t mean Microsoft Flight Simulator but the one that commercial pilots use.

Here’s a video of Juliano explaining part of your ship’s start-up procedures:

However, there’s more to this than a complex on-board computer system. This game simulates everything from realistic ships systems to how the pilot reacts to g-forces to a dynamically changing environment. The project seems ridiculously ambitious. However, if no one tries to push the bounds of what can be done in a video game, we get no where as gamers.

I want DCI to succeed. If they are able to pull off half of what they want to in this game, we will have one of the greatest space sims of all-time. There’s a lot that they want to do with this game and it’s all explained on their Kickstarter page. The more I read about this game, the more excited I get for it and the more I want to play it. We’re looking at a GOTY contender for 2015.
