Left 4 Dead 3 Accidentally Leaked
Just when you thought that Gabe Newell and his team at Valve couldn’t count to three, a photo from a tour of Valve’s office showed that they are working on the third game in a franchise. No, it’s not Half-Life 3 (yet) but the likely to be hotly anticipated Left 4 Dead 3.
As part of this weekend’s Dota 2 tournament The International 3, players got a tour of one of Valve’s offices. They got a look around some of the artist and programming areas of the office which included this change log which showed work being done on Left 4 Dead 3 and Source 2 engine.
Rather than give you eye strain, here’s a close-up of the L4D3 notes from that above photo.
Now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Valve is working on the Source 2 engine. If memory serves, GabeN has talked about this in the past and been open about the fact that work is being done on a next-gen version of the Source engine.
What GabeN hasn’t talked about is which games are in development at Valve on the Source 2 engine. While I think that we’re all hoping for Half-Life 3 to be the first game Valve releases for Source 2, it’s probably a good thing that L4D3 is the first thing that Valve releases on its next-gen engine. As they familiarize themselves with the engine, the games they release will get better and we are going to hold HL3 to the highest of standards.
So if Valve isn’t working on Half-Life 3 for release soon, I can live with that. Hopefully giving the team more time to work on the game makes it that much better. tl;dr – Don’t panic because we’re getting L4D3 before HL3.
